What is permanent makeup?Permanent makeup is a cosmetic tattooing technique that enhances your features by implanting pigment into the skin, creating long-lasting results for brows, lips, eyeliner, and more.
-
Why do people get permanent makeup?Permanent makeup has many benefits! PMU saves time on your routine and can be used to improve facial symmetry and balance, restore lost or missing color, reshape imperfections, and enhance overall confidence. We provide you with natural results that are beautiful on their own or the perfect guideline to go over with regular makeup.
-
How long do the results last? Results typically last 1-3 years, depending on factors like skin type, lifestyle, and adherence to aftercare.
-
Does permanent makeup hurt?Discomfort is minimal. A numbing cream is applied to reduce pain, and most clients describe the sensation as mild scratching, similar to a sunburn.
-
Will I still need to wear makeup after my appointment?Permanent makeup is not a replacement for regular makeup; the goal is to make your routine low maintenance, not no maintenance. It will give you fuller, more defined, natural-looking brows/lips and a base shape/color to work off of. If you're wearing a full face of makeup, remove excess foundation and concealer from your PMU afterward. You can add additional products to your brows/lips for extra definition. *Regular grooming, including waxing and tweezing, should be expected. Some guests love the natural look and don't add anything extra. Others prefer to use the shape we've created as a guideline for applying their regular everyday makeup. There is no correct answer!
-
What if I have thin lips or minimal brow hair? These make the transformations even better! It doesn't matter what you're starting with; we're happy to show you what we can achieve with PMU.
-
Who is NOT a good candidate for permanent makeup? Those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking blood thinners, have certain skin conditions, or have a history of keloid scarring should consult their artist before booking. Read our Eligibility information for the complete list of contraindications.
-
Can I still get permanent makeup if I have previous PMU from another artist?Yes, in most cases, but it depends on the condition of the previous work. Contact us for a touch-up or removal evaluation.
-
Can I get permanent makeup while on Accutane? We ask that you wait at least 12 months after stopping Accutane.
-
Is permanent makeup suitable for all skin types?Yes, we offer techniques suitable for all skin types. However, results may vary based on skin type, oil production, and sensitivity. *We encourage the Ombré Powder Brow technique for guests with oily or mature skin.
-
What if I have thin lips or minimal eyebrow hair?In our opinion, these make the transformations even better! It doesn't matter what you're starting with, we're happy to show you what we can achieve with PMU.
-
What should I avoid before my permanent makeup appointment?Avoid caffeine and alcohol 24-48hrs before your session. Discontinue using skincare products that contain exfoliants, retinoids, acne treatments, bleaching agents, skin-lightening products, antioxidants/peels, moisturizers with active ingredients, and makeup primers/setting products with silicones for at least two weeks before. Please read our information to prepare for your permanent makeup appointment.
-
Should I groom my brows before my permanent makeup appointment? No, leave your brows as they are so your artist can map and shape them properly. Try not to tweeze, trim, or wax them for two weeks before your appointment.
-
What skincare products should I avoid before my PMU appointment?Avoid products with following ingredients for 2-4 weeks prior: Products containing AHAs (glycolic acid, lactic acid) BHAs (salicylic acid) Physical scrubs or exfoliants Benzoyl Peroxide Retinol Tretinoin (Retin-A) Retinoic acid Hydroquinone Kojic acid Vitamin C Chemical peels Anti-aging creams with peptides or strong acids
-
Should I wear makeup to my appointment? We recommend wearing your makeup as you typically do so your artist can understand your style/preferences better. Wear whatever amount makes you comfortable. We always cleanse and sanitize the treatment area before we map out the design.
-
Why must I avoid alcohol and caffeine before the procedure?Alcohol and caffeine can thin the blood, increasing sensitivity and bleeding. Less bleeding means more color retention, which creates better results.
-
What should I expect after my appointment? We send you home with the necessary products to care for your new PMU at home. The area is considered an "open wound" and should be kept clean and free from extra products (i.e. skincare, makeup, sunscreen, etc.) until healing is complete. Patience and trust are required, as PMU is a two-step process to achieve final results. Immediately after your appointment: the area may appear swollen, red, and/or tender. 1-2 days after: the color will appear darker, bolder, and more vibrant than desired results. Any swelling or redness should disappear within 48 hours. 2-4 days after: the treated area will feel tight, dry, and itchy. 5-14 days after: As the treated area begins to heal, it sheds and flakes, similar to a mild sunburn. It is crucial that you do NOT pick. The color underneath will appear very light or barely visible. Please be patient and wait the full 6-8 weeks to see the final color. The area will continue to heal under the skin for 6-8 weeks. We must wait until the skin is completely healed to touch up your PMU at your perfecting session.
-
What are the Aftercare instructions for permanent makeup?Keep the area clean and hydrated. Avoid sun, sweat, steam, and additional products for 10-14 days. DO NOT PICK. Follow the detailed copy of aftercare instructions and use only the products provided/approved by your artist. Read our Aftercare guidelines to know how to care for your new PMU.
-
How long does permanent makeup take to heal?Initial healing phase (on the surface) takes about 10-14 days, but complete healing (under the skin) and noticeable results can take up to 6-8 weeks. The healing phase may be shorter or longer, depending on the individual client and service.
-
What should I avoid after my appointment? To ensure proper healing and optimal results please AVOID: Touching/Picking/Scratching/Peeling Sweating/Heavy Exercise Swimming/Soaking/Steam/Sauna/Hot Tub Sunlight/Tanning Applying makeup Sleeping on face Skin Treatments Harsh soaps/cleansers Lip clients please also AVOID: Spicy foods Drinks WITHOUT a straw Whitening toothpastes
-
Will I need a touch-up?Yes, PMU is a two-step process. A perfecting session 6-8 weeks after your initial appointment is included in the initial price and is essential for achieving final results. *If additional sessions are needed outside of the 6-8 week window or a third appointment is required, they will incur an additional fee.
-
How do I ensure the best results? To ensure the best possible results, please follow all the Pre-Care and Aftercare instructions exactly as directed. Always protect your skin (and your investment) by wearing SPF after the healing phase is completed. Avoid harsh exfoliants, skin treatments, and excessive sun exposure to the treated area.
-
What causes permanent makeup to fade faster?Specific skin and lifestyle factors can contribute to premature fading or discoloration. Tanning and/or UV exposure (sun or tanning beds): UV rays penetrate the skin and break down the pigment particles, causing them to fade. UV damage accelerates skin cell turnover, which causes the skin to renew itself more quickly. As skin regeneration increases, it sheds the upper layers of skin (where the pigment resides) leading to faster fading. Oily skin, especially near the treated area: Excess oil (sebum) can dilute the pigment during healing and prevent proper pigment absorption. Oily skin types often have faster cell turnover, which means the cells are shed more quickly as new skin forms. Certain skincare products/treatments: Exfoliating Acids (AHAs, BHAs, PHAs) - speeds up skin cell turnover Retinoids - stimulates cellular turnover, skin renewal, & collagen production Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) - skin brightening properties and mild exfoliation Hydroquinone - reduces melanin production and lighten surrounding skin, making PMU appear faded or uneven Benzoyl Peroxide - can cause irritation/peeling and pigment breakdown Chemical Peels - remove multiple layers of skin, reducing intensity Microneedling - the process stimulates deep skin renewal and physically disrupt pigment under the skin Guests with oily skin or who regularly tan or spend time outdoors may need more frequent touch-ups to maintain their PMU.
-
What skincare products/treatments should I avoid? To prevent premature fading and discoloration, you should avoid skincare products and treatments intended to exfoliate, lighten/brighten the skin, clear acne, and promote cellular turnover or skin renewal. Exfoliating Acids (AHAs, BHAs, PHAs) - speed up skin cell turnover Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Mandelic Acid, Salicylic Acid Retinoids - stimulates cellular turnover, skin renewal, & collagen production Retinol, Retin-A, Tretinoin, Adapalene Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) - potent antioxidant used to brighten skin and fade hyper-pigmentation Hydroquinone - powerful skin-lightening agent Benzoyl Peroxide - used in acne treatments, can be harsh on the skin and lead to irritation and peeling Chemical Peels - professional or at-home peels often contain high concentrations of exfoliating acids Microneedling - the process stimulates deep skin renewal and physically disrupt pigment under the skin
-
How often will I need touch-ups?Typically, Color Boosts are needed every 1-3 years depending on skin type and lifestyle. We do not recommend more than one appointment per year to maintain the integrity of skin.
-
How do I know when to book a touch-up?Color Boost appointments are typically needed every 1-3 years, depending on skin type and lifestyle. You may be due for a touch-up if you have lost shape, definition, and the color has faded by at least 50%.
-
How can I keep my permanent makeup looking fresh?HYDRATION is the key to vibrant, healthy-looking skin and results. Regularly moisturize the area to restore vibrancy to your permanent makeup. Pigment rests underneath the skin, so if your skin is dry and dull, your PMU will appear that way, too. Avoid harsh exfoliants, and schedule Color-Boost appointments as needed.
-

-
How does Li-FT removal/lightening work? The solution is tattooed into the skin to lift pigment particles. Over time, the body pushes the pigment and solution toward the skin’s surface, lightening the treated area.
-
Am I good candidate for Li-FT?Candidates must have fresh PMU (within last 48hrs) OR fully healed skin (at least 8 weeks post-PMU procedure) and no active skin conditions, pregnancy, or certain medical conditions. A consultation is recommended to determine eligibility.
-
Is Li-FT safe?Yes! It’s a natural, gentle removal method using salt, water, lemon seed extract, and orange seed extract, designed specifically for PMU corrections.
